In 1939, recently made British knowledge organization MI6 initiates Cambridge arithmetic former student Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) to decipher Nazi codes, including Enigma - which cryptanalysts had thought unbreakable. Turing's group, including Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley), investigate Enigma messages while he fabricates a machine to translate them.
